Net10 has some very good deals for those people who want an affordable prepaid phone plan.  The name "Net10" comes from the fact that every minute of talk time costs 10 cents.  Text messages cost the same as do minutes spent on web browsing.

How Do Net10 Cell Phones Work?

Net10 phones are prepaid, so you pay ahead of time for your talk time.  As you use your phone, minutes are deducted from your total.

When you begin your plan with Net10, you generally get 300 minutes of talk time to use over a period of 60 days.  But at the end of that period of time, you don't lose your minutes.  They will actually carry over into the next month.  But you need to know that you do have to add minutes to your card before the 60 day period expires.  This way you keep your phone active and get to use all of the Net10 minutes you paid for.

Why Should I Buy a Net10 Prepaid Cell Phone?

If you use approximately 150 minutes a month, Net10 cell phones  makes a lot of sense.  Even if you use more talk time, it still makes a lot of sense for a lot of people since 10 cents a minute is very affordable, you will just refill your phone when you need more time.

Net10's phones are affordable and talk time is inexpensive.  One of the coolest features of Net10 cell phone is that when you turn your phone on, you can see how much talk time you have left on your current cycle.  It's a good thing because it helps you keep track of how many minutes you have left before you need to refill.

Toward the end of the month, you will know if you need to use fewer minutes a day or if you have a lot to burn.

Net10 Prepaid Phones Have No Contracts

You don't have to sign a contract in order to use a Net10 phone.  Since this is the case, there are no commitments and no "contract breakage" fees, which are a total joke in my opinion.

Net10 Cell Phones Give You More Control of Your Wireless Service

Since you by minutes when you need them, you have more control over your service.  You do have to refill every 60 days, but this not a bad thing.  You will easily be able to keep track of your phone use so you can be smarter in how you spend your minutes.

Opinions about this phone--much like opinions about Megan Fox's acting skills--are varied. Some people like it and think it is another strong step forward for Android phones and others dislike it, calling it a device for younger, less sophisticated phone users.

The style, shape, and design—but mostly weight—of the Motorola Devour has all been commented on. The phone is a heavier, bulkier phone with an industrial, boxy look. It weighs 6.5 ounces, has a 3.1-inch touch screen, and holds up to 16GB of memory with an expanded MicroSD card.

The negative thing about the shape and size of the Motorola Devour is that it is a bigger device than people are used to these days. The good thing is that it is built solid and the slide-out full QWERTY keypad slides out with a satisfying “thud.” It’s going nowhere.  And I think a lot of people who are talking negatively about the size have not used the phone.

Some have called the Devour an entry-level Android device, which probably isn’t that far off base. Still, most people who haven’t had one of the few Google Android phones available are “entry-level” at this point.

Motorola Devour has a responsive and brilliantly colored touch screen that utilizes the Motoblur technology, which is Motorola’s proprietary software that allows phone users to interact with the phone’s functions, Internet, and social media. It creates a nice user experience.

The Devour’s physical keyboard is actually very easy to use and the keys are far enough apart and pronounced enough for big fingers to use without too many typos. There’s something “big” about this phone, even though when you see it in person it’s nowhere near as large as some of the reviews would have you believe.

Granted, the full keyboard (for texting) and the Motoblur social networking technology makes this phone a “younger” device, but still, older phone users may find that this phone is a pretty good option. Motoblur aggregates all of your friends across different social networks, which makes it easier to keep in touch and to see what is going on in your social world. It streams information from across all your networks and profiles, keeping you entirely connected.

It’s funny that when we talk about social media, we always think about the younger generations, but one of the most popular demographics on Facebook is women in their 30’s.

The Devour also has a 3 megapixel camera and a “touch sensitive navigation pad,” which is a small dark square on the lower left of the front of the phone that navigates through menus as you brush your finger across it. The touch screen seems to work better than this function, however.

This phone is a very good Android phone for Verizon.  Sure, it's bigger than many other phones, but the size isn't really that much of an issue.  Personally, I think the Motorola Devour is a very good cell phone option, even if it's not for everybody.

It has a very responsive and brilliantly colored touchscreen equipped with Motoblur technology and a very nice pull-out (and it pulls out with a nice solid "thud") physical keyboard.

Devour has an industrial look and a physical weightiness that is no doubt going to polarize opinions of this phone.  Overall, the second Verizon Android phone is a good phone.

If you're interested in this phone, you can find it in store locations like Best Buy for about $99.  You can find it online from merchants such as Amazon and LetsTalk for $49.99.  But the best place to find it is on Wirefly.com, where the Motorola Devour costs only $29.99.  This link goes to another post on this blog, not Wirefly.  It's the best price out there on this phone.

So what happened?

I think the phone has been replaced, as such, by a new phone that MetroPCS recently added to its stable of phones, the Samsung Caliber.  MetroPCS also sells the Samsung Code, which is another smarphone, on its site.  You should also check out the Samsung Stunt, which will be offered for free for a limited amount of time.

Samsung Finesse is a very popular phone and is getting a second life of sorts on the Straight Talk Wireless prepaid plans.  It's the best phone on that network.

The Samsung Caliber looks a little more stylish and trendy than the Finesse, however.  It boasts a 3.2" touchscreen, customizable widget bar, a 3.0 megapixel camera, and a full html browser.  I think MetroPCS users will find all they need out of their prepaid phone in the Caliber.

Still, the Samsung Finesse will still be missed.  And for those of you who still want one, try eBay.  I'm sure they will still work with MetroPCS wireless service.

Other reviews, like this one at tech blog JKontherun, said the phone was another step in the right direction for Android phones.  It never ceases to amaze me how different people's reactions to cell phone are.  It's crazy how some people fall in love with a phone and how others are almost disgusted by the very same model.

Much like the annoying Mac vs PC thing that people suffer from, people are always going to infuse their strong opinions based on personal experience and preference into their cell phone reviews.  This is exactly what's happening with the Devour.

In the Wired review of the Motorola Devour I reference above, the author complains about the build up of finger grease on the touch screen, a criticism I haven't heard elsewhere or haven't seen on extensive videos of the Devour.

Generally a greasy touchscreen results from greasy fingers.  Every touchscreen is like that!  Maybe you shouldn't be eating fried chicken while doing your cell phone reviews?

In looking for information about the Motorola Devour, I also found perhaps the best deal out there anywhere (in stores or online) at Wirefly.  First, I checked out LetsTalk and found the phone on sale for $49.99 with a new Verizon plan.  It's the same price on Amazon.com (click to see it here).  I also scanned ebay for steals on this phone, but found none.

But at Wirefly.com, the Motorola Devour is $29.99 with a new Verizon Wireless plan.  This is the best deal out there for this phone that I can find.
