Verizon’s New $80 Prepaid Smartphone Plan Released

I’ve written a little bit about this over the past few days and it’s something I’ve been paying attention to. Verizon has released its new $80 prepaid smartphone plan. Calling it the Prepaid $80 Plan, Verizon released its new plan on May 1, 2012.

This plan comes with unlimited text, unlimited talk, 1 GB data, and nationwide coverage. The 1GB of data is a little low, but it shouldn’t really get in your way. There is only one phone that you can use with this plan, Samsung Illusion, which will retail at $169.99 when you buy it with this plan. See all details at VerizonWireless.com

Verizon Gets Official and Releases New Prepaid Android $80 Plan

Verizon has dangled clues recently about a new $80 Unlimited Prepaid plan. It was unclear whether the $80 referred to an Android phone itself or to the data package. Verizon today officially announced that it will be releasing (on May 1) a new prepaid plan that comes with unlimited talk, text, and 1 gb of data usage. The one phone that works with the plan is the Samsung Illusion (which will retail at $169.99).

Verizon’s $80 Prepaid Android Plan Coming Soon

As yeswap talks about in a post on his prepaid phone blog, Verizon is coming out with a new prepaid Android phone plan that will cost $80 per month. It doesn’t seem particularly ground breaking. You can only use two phones with this new Verizon plan, the Motorola Citrus (not a good phone) and the Samsung Illusion, which has a 1 mhz processor and a pretty good screen. You would have to purchase the phone in addition to the monthly fee, and you can expect this phone to be right around $100. Verizon’s supposed plan would give you unlimited text and talk, and 1 GB of data.

There are at least two more affordable options with better phone choices, Straight Talk ($45 per month unlimited) and Page Plus ($55/month).

*Update: The latest details of this new plan are available in this official announcement. And there’s more here. It looks like the Motorola Citrus won’t be available with this plan. Verizon’s announcement only mentions the Samsung Illusion, which will be priced at $169.99.

LG Lucid Leaked Verizon Phone

LG Lucid is an upcoming Verizon phone that has not officially been announced and full specs have not yet been released to the public. We do know that Verizon Wireless will be attached to this phone. The phone is a 3G EVDO phone witha 4″ Nova touch screen display. The Lucid has a 5 megapixel camera/video recorder (1080 HD). It has 16 GB of Internal memory and thousands of ringtones to choose from.

Droid Bionic: Verizon 4G LTE Dual Core Processor Phone

The new Droid Bionic is the first Verizon Android phone to have 4G LTE connectivity and a dual core processor. This makes this phone pretty darn powerful and it’s sure to be a fun one to carry around. The Bionic has a 4.3 inch touch screen, an 8 megapixel camera, and 1 GB of RAM.

This Verizon Android phone is clearly a top performer and has a lot of people frothing at the mouth. But does it live up to the hype? That’s the real question.

Read a lengthy review of the Droid Bionic (before you think about buying it) at Phandroid. See another at engadget. It’s not a prepaid phone, but we felt like writing about it anyways since it’s a very nice looking Android phone and we like to keep up on what Verizon is up to.

Update: It looks like Straight Talk Wireless, the TracFone prepaid phone brand, likes what has happened so far with its first Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy Precedent, because now it is releasing a second follow-up Android phone: LG Optimus Q. This phone is $30 more than precedent, but if you prefer LG phones to Samsung, you’re in luck.

AT&T and Verizon Launch New Prepaid Plans: Any Good?

Verizon and AT&T are both releasing new prepaid plans. In the case of Verizon, we’ve seen the Unleashed plan as it was released in several markets including California and Florida. Now, it appears that the Verizon Unlimited plan will be released on a wider scale across the country.

Verizon Prepaid Plan

The Verizon plan costs $50 for unlimited talk, text, and web. This seems to be a good deal even considering that for $5 less, you can get unlimited everything from Straight Talk (which has its first Android Straight Talk phone out now). Still, if the Verizon prepaid plans have the robust Verizon network buttressing them, this could be another factor to consider. You can learn more about the Verizon plan at Verizon.com

The competition here (in other words, the brands you should also look at) include Straight Talk (as I mentioned above), MetroPCS with its $40 unlimited plan, and Boost Mobile with its $50 unlimited prepaid plan that starts to cost less and less the longer you subscribe.

AT&T GoPhone Plan: Not Unlimited Plan

AT&T’s new GoPhone plan isn’t an unlimited plan, but it actually looks quite good for those who text a lot and don’t rely on calling as much. The plan includes 240 nationwide voice minutes and unlimited text messaging for $25. It’s not that bad if you think about it. Unlimited text messaging plus a decent amount (okay rather small amount) of minutes for only $25. For $20 more, you can get unlimited everything from Straight Talk or MetroPCS.

If you’re comfortable at that $25 rate and don’t want to go above it, you better make sure you don’t talk to0 long-winded on your phone. You’re going to need to be a big time texter to make it worthwhile. If that’s what you are, then you’re in luck.

Verizon has recently released three phones to their specific Unleashed unlimited prepaid cell phone plan. These phones vary in price and features, but they all have great, top quality options and are great phones. The three phones available for Verizon’s unleashed plan are the LG Accolade, the Pantech Caper and the LG Cosmos. All of these phones are full of features and abilities and are some of the greatest prepaid phones in the market, especially for a great unlimited plan like Verizon’s unleashed plan.
