Straight Talk Still a Top Prepaid Brand with Four Android Phones

Since the company’s inception, Straight Talk has added four Android phones to its lineup. The first one was the Samsung Galaxy Precedent, which was followed soon by the LG Optimus Q. The latest two phones are also the most interesting. LG Optimus Q comes from one of the most popular prepaid phone families ever–LG’s Optimus line of phones. Straight Talk Wireless is still considered one of the better or perhaps best deals in prepaid even as WalMart is now adding two new prepaid plans to its shelves.

Straight Talk phones are sold exclusively at Walmart and the official StraightTalk.com site, but now the company will see more competition from Common Sense Mobile and Walmart’s Family Mobile service, both of which will be on shelves in the same store.

The Straight Talk plans are still aimed at a different group of people, which will help to differentiate it in the eyes of the consumer. Straight Talk is well known for its $45 unlimited plan, which provides subscribers with unlimited text, voice, and web (and is a darn good deal for all of that at that price). It is for people who use their phone more, whereas Common Sense Mobile and Family Mobile are for lower bulk users.

Straight Talk also has the edge when it comes to cell phones. The Samsung R355C, which some see as the phone that has replaced the Samsung Finesse, is about as nice as prepaid phones get. It is a user-friendly phone with a slab-style reminiscent of BlackBerry phones.

Some might think that Straight Talk Wireless is a victim of its success because it did so well for Walmart that the store chain devised two new cell phone plans on the back of its success. In other words, more phone plans, more sales. But you would be mistaken. The Straight Talk plan are still going to attract a lot of attention from the people who they will serve the best. People interested in an unlimited plan at what many call a nominal fee will be impressed by the Straight Talk has done with its plans, and now that there are four Android phones, the chasm widens between ST and other prepaid companies that just can’t really hang. Update – Since I first wrote this post, Straight Talk surprised me with another Android phone. This one is the ZTE Merit, a modestly priced phone that also runs on the Straight Talk limitless plan (all you can eat web, talk, text) and has a very nice look. For the price, it’s a good deal if you like the phone. It’s pretty early on so there is not as much documentation on this newly released phone. Straight Talk Adds Two New Smart Phones to its Available Phone List

It is a legitimate smart phone and Straight Talk is claiming that this phone, in addition to the Nokia E71, is one of its first smart phones to be used on the Straight Talk plans. And this is after the Samsung Finesse has basically been phased out since it’s a pretty old phone.

You may also be interested in the new Nokia E5 phone, which is the latest addition to the Straight Talk family. Nokia E71 and Samsung t528g (the only current touch screen phone) were both released right around the same day. This means that there are now three new phones to consider from this company. Options are always a good thing unless you suffer from analysis paralysis. If you’re interested in getting Straight Talk’s unlimited service with another phone–say an iPhone–then you are now in luck, as you can now buy simcards from this company that can be used by third party phones.

There is an even newer Straight Talk cell phone available now. It’s the ZTE Merit and it surprised me when I went over to the site to look at the LG Optimus Black’s specs a little closer because I wasn’t expecting to see another new Android phone released shortly after the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim and the Black. But it’s here now, which is a good thing for people looking for an affordable Android phone (ZTE Merit costs only $129), an unlimited plan (Straight Talk’s plan costs $45 per month for unlimited talk, text, web), and a prepaid phone to boot. There are quite a few good Android selections on ST now. My favorite is Optimus Black, but I also really like the Galaxy Proclaim because it runs on Verizon’s network (3G) and streams video and pulls in data really quickly. It was a surprise to me when I saw it run first.

One of them is the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim, the first Straight Talk phone to operate on Verizon (CDMA) networks. This phone will work in many different locales. You gotta love Verizon’s network. The second phone is the LG Optimus Black Android phone. This particular phone is the best one Straight Talk has in its arsenal right now. Operating on the Unlimited Straight Talk plan, this phone is a winner.

Bluetooth capability is present too and mobile web access which is great, because in this way the potential of unlimited prepaid plans with unlimited data can be used to the fullest. This is one of my favorite phones on Straight Talk.

The important thing with Samsung phones is that there is something for everyone so it is up to you to choose according to your own needs and desires.

You might want to wait a few days if you’re thinking about buying an android prepaid phone because there is going to be a third Android released by Straight Talk. Optimus 2X is Not Coming to Straight Talk, but Optimus Black is now available for purchase online. The Samsung Galaxy Proclaim, which is a prepaid Android that runs on the Verizon network (!), is another new phone that was recently made available online. Both Proclaim and Black run on the Unlimited Straight Talk plan. The Proclaim is the only phone that runs on the Verizon network though. See both new Androids at Straight Talk’s site.

The LG Optimus 2X will not be released by Straight Talk after (at least for now). This may seem like old news to those of you who were following this, but I wanted to wait and make sure it wasn’t going to be released before I reported on it. I guess I was still holding out hope that Optimus 2X was going to appear on Straight Talk’s site one day. But, alas, that day is not going to come anytime soon. But there is still reason for joy.

The LG Optimus Black Android, which was just released in place of Optimus 2X runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a brilliant 4 inch touch screen, 1 gigahertz processor, and a 5 megapixel camera (and video recorder) and also a front-facing camera that makes video chatting a possibility. The second phone–and the most exciting one perhaps–is the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim. This is a big deal for all of the people in the United States who have not been able to take advantage of the ST Android phones yet because they run on the Sprint network. One is a Nokia smart phone, E5 (pictured below), the most advanced phone in Straight Talk’s lineup and the other is the first Android smart phone for this carrier, the Samsung Galaxy Precedent. Both must be used with Straight Talk’s $45 unlimited plan, which provides unlimited everything, which is logical since both of them are fully functional smart phones that use a lot of data. Why are these two phones the top options for this carrier? Well, Nokia E5 is, as I already mentioned above, the most advanced smart phone in this prepaid lineup, which also makes it the most expensive option. Priced at $199.99, the Nokia and certainly offers some very good functionality, but now that Samsung Galaxy Precedent has been added, an Android-powered smart phone also containing great functionality but at a lower price, it’s necessary to question how superior Nokia E5 is compared to Precedent.

Nokia E5 supports sending text and picture messages, instant messaging communities for chatting as well as multiple email accounts, all popular functions. You can text with ease on this smart phone since Nokia E5 features an excellent QWERTY keyboard that makes typing a joy. The slight problem might lie in a 2.4″ LCD display and Symbian 9.2 OS that, compared to the Android touch screen display, feels small and less functional. Also, exceptional connectivity options are supported with fast 3g speeds and WiFi connectivity as well as with Bluetooth. GPS is also supported as well as expandable memory up to 32GB.

Samsung Galaxy Precedent (above) can do pretty much all the things that E5 can do but at a price of $149.99. It is a mid-range Android-powered touch screen phone running on Android 2.2 Froyo, boasting an 800MHz processor and 384MB RAM. It comes with all the cool things expected from this type of phone. That makes it perfect for users that look for no-contract commitments but still desire the cache of an attractive handset that is fully functional. The only major feature that works in favor of Nokia smart phone is a 5.0 mega-pixel camera for taking quality photos and videos. Precedent is equipped with only 2.0 mega-pixel camera with video recording.

The bottom line is that, maybe, these two smart phones do not need to be compared. They together represent the top options in Straight Talk’s lineup and one does not need to be better or worse than other, just more suitable to someone’s needs. Your phone needs are completely different than someone else’s needs.
