If you own a prepaid phone, chances are you like to send text messages. They are affordable, they make sense, and they get right to the point. A recent article at Prepaid Reviews singles out a few of the top prepaid phones for text messaging.

There are other very good text messaging prepaid phones too that are not covered here. One thing you want to consider when you’re searching a good text messaging phone is what kind of plan it works on. If you are paying for each and every text and you text a lot, you might want to consider an unlimited plan that has a flat monthly fee.

This may save you some money throughout the month. Do some simple math and see what you are spending each month on your text messages and then figure out how much you might be saving if you did not have to pay 5 cents or 7 cents per text message sent. You may be able to save with an unlimited plan even if you don’t generally use web browsing or make a lot of calls.

There are so many great pay as you go plans out there that there is truly something for everybody. And most providers have some hot new Androids to go with their plans. Think Straight Talk, MetroPCS, Virgin, and Boost. There are some definite choices out there so don’t settle.

Will Prepaid SmartPhones Catch Up to PostPaid?

There is a lot of debate out there about whether or not prepaid smartphones will catch up to postpaid smartphones. It is clear that postpaid smart phones are going to be the front runners for a while since they are subsidized by companies who charge lower rates for expensive phones because they lock customers into long term (usually 2 year) contracts, guaranteeing long term payments.

Still, prepaid smartphone offerings are making great strides, and you have to wonder how long prepaid will be in postpaid’s smart phone wake. It stands to reason that as soon as people realize how much money they can save on service payments, they will stop being fooled into paying half of the price of an expensive phone that locks them into a contract, and they will decide that paying full price is not that bad when you look at the real numbers.

New WalMart Prepaid Phone: AT&T Fusion GoPhone

There’s a new AT&T phone just released at WalMart. It’s the AT&T Fusion U8652. This isn’t the most ground breaking phone to ever be released, but it’s on the AT&T GoPhone plan and I haven’t heard too much news about this plan in a while, so I figured I would drop this tidbit on people who still look for new GoPhone releases.

Black Friday comes but once a year and it is an opportunity to save a bunch of money on everything from couches to jewelry to 3D TV sets. This year, you can also find a bunch of really good deals on prepaid cell phones in your local big box stores or online. In fact, I prefer doing my shopping online in order to get the best deals. That’s what I prefer because I hate waiting in super long lines to get into the store and then to check-out of the store.

Prepaid phone deals for January 2012 – Update!

There are a bunch of really good prepaid phones on sale for January of 2012. What a great way to start the year. The big winner is the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Slider phone that is marked down to about $162 on Amazon.com from $199. That’s a significant savings for this hot Virgin Mobile phone and is a great way to start saving in the new year.

Prepaid Phone News has a good list that they update every week of the current prepaid phones on sale. Each week, they have a new post with some good prepaid deals they find. It’s got to be the longest list I see anywhere and must take a good deal of time to prepare. You can find some good prepaid phone deals from Target, Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Amazon.

These guys obviously take a lot of time compiling this list, so if you are going to buy a phone support them and click through on their list to the phone you want. Below, I took the liberty of listing some of the highlights I found from the list, as well as a few deals I have heard about that are going on right now.

Virgin Mobile Deals

One deal that sticks out is for the Virgin Mobile Motorola Triumph at a price of $259, which is a savings of $40. This phone is available at this price at Amazon. The Virgin LG Optimus V is also available for $112 marked down from $149. In another piece of news, Virgin should be releasing the LG Optimus slider today at a no-contact price of $200. Net10 Deals

You may have heard that the first Net10 Android phones were released this week and are available for pre-order on the official Net10 website, Net10.com. There are some other good phone deals from this company right now, like the LG 800G, which is available for $39.99.

Straight Talk Deals

Straight Talk also recently released its second Android phone, the LG Optimus Q. See it at the official website (you can find the link below). There are also two good deals going on right now. The Nokia E71 and 6790 (reconditioned models) are being sold for only $99 on the website. There are also two free Straight Talk phones being offered right now, so if you really want to save some money, that could be a way to go, but you just won’t be getting the better Straight Talk smart phones. Boost Mobile Deals

The list at Prepaid Phone News highlights Boost Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy Prevail Android phone as the deal of the week. This phone is available on Amazon for $137.99 with free shipping. Normally, this phone is priced at $179.99.

Verizon Deals

Verizon has a couple of prepaid deals going on right now. At Radio Shack, you can get the ZTE Salute for about $30 (a savings of $10) and the Samsung Intensity II for about $80 (saving $20). Learn more details at the list cited above and at the official Verizon site. There is a good list of free contract Verizon phones at the site right now. Target has the LG Accolade flip phone for only about $23. Amazon has the Palm Pixi Plus for only about $36 but it is to be used with Page Plus.

PlatinumTel is one of the oldest prepaid cell phone carriers in the US and since they are present at prepaid market for long time, they have developed a wide array of prepaid phones and plans that are quite competitive. In their lineup, they include all kinds of handsets, from simple flip phones to Android-powered smart phones. They also provide pay as you go wireless services Real Paygo as well as monthly plans including Android plan, Unlimited plan, Hybrid monthly plan and international dialing.

The Real Paygo option starts at $10 and $20 for 90 days of service, $30 and $50 for 180 days of service and $100 for a year plus 5 cents per minute, 2 cents per text and 10 cents per MB of data. Android unlimited talk and text offers for $55 – 200 MB of data and for $65 – 1GB of data.

Unlimited talk and text provide nationwide unlimited talk, text and 100 MB of 3G data, for just $50 per month. However, this way you get the bonus of $10 so there is actually $60 in airtime. And that is not all that you will be charged for. You will be charged $2 per day to talk and text unlimitedly.

Hybrid plan is the most complicated and at the end can be quite pricey. It starts at $20 for 15 days of use with 200 minutes and unlimited nights and weekends, with text and web costing extra ($5 and $10) and another one is $30 for 30 days.

Android phones available at PlatinumTel prepaid lineup are HTC Hero, Samsung M910 Intercept and Sanyo Zio PLS-8600 as well as great messaging phone Sanyo 2700 Black and slider phone LG Rumor 2 Black.

HTC Hero is one of the Android smart phone available for this carrier. It is $119.99 and for it, you get the phone that runs on Android 1.6 but with available upgrade to Android 2.1. Also it has a 3.2″ touch sensitive screen with 320×480 pixels resolution and LED backlight. In addition, it has 3.2-megapixel camera with 30 fps video playback on board as well as WiFi, Google Maps and access to Android Market apps. With this phone, you also get 2 GB microSD card included.

In Straight Talk lineup, there is a phone for everyone’s needs. Users can pick from the cheap basic phones to a bit more expensive and more advanced smart phones. In case that someone searches for a solid inexpensive messaging phone, Straight Talk Samsung T404G is the one. It is an upgrade to Samsung T401G and is available for $89.99.

This good, basic and straightforward phone goes with either of the two Straight Talk plans: $30 for 1000 minutes, 1000 messages and 30MB of data usage or $45 unlimited plan with unlimited talk, text and data. Since Samsung T404G has mobile web access, both plans can suit you, which one, just depends on personal needs.

Samsung t404G is a slider phone with LCD color display and slider QWERTY keyboard. With spaced navigation keys and a good layout, the keyboard is easy to use for texting. This is one of the strongest features of this phone, a very good affordable messaging phone. Besides it, the phone’s main screen is 2.0″ TFT that supports 65K colors, with 176X220-pixel resolution. The phone measures 4.5 by 2.0 by 0.6 and weights 4.55 ounces, so it is pocket friendly.

Besides text messaging, Straight Talk Samsung T404G also supports MMS picture messaging. Capturing special moments can also be done with phone’s 2.0 megapixel camera and video recorder that produces rather decent quality pictures and videos. MP3 player is also on-board. Bluetooth wireless technology too but there is no WiFi. Anyway, with Bluetooth, you can easily transfer your pictures on your computer, which is great feature in case you do not want to buy additional memory. Also, features as voice recorder, voicemail and call waiting as well as caller, picture and ringtone ID are available. The phone provides good call quality and battery life is up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 21 days of standby time, which is good enough.

Considering all these specs, it is obvious that the phone does not offer too many features like many other phones included in Straight Talk lineup but again, for someone who is after a good and affordable messaging phone, this is a good option.
