I was doing some reading about prepaid phones and I came across an article that summed up in three points why prepaid phones are currently popular and are only going to get more popular as we move on toward 2011.
I’ve touched on all the points in other articles on this website, but here are the three reasons prepaid plans are picking up steam and show no signs of slowing down.
1) Flexible Pricing
2) Smartphones
3) Big chain stores sell and advertise prepaid phones
Prepaid phones, like those from Straight Talk and TracFone, require no contract. You have some latitude on what your bill is.
Smartphones are now some of the most popular phones on the market. If you thought that prepaid companies weren’t going to adopt them, you are sorely mistaken. Straight Talk Wireless just added two smart phones: Nokia E71 and Nokia 6790.
These higher end phones will attract people who never would have considered prepaid in the past since prepaid phones have historically been pretty low end.
There are a lot of new great pay as you go plans and as time goes by, they will become more and more popular. If you’re shopping around the holidays, you can generally find a lot of very good deals on prepaid cell phones. Definitely have a look at the deals at Straight Talk, TracFone, Net10, and MetroPCS. In some instances, you can get a free cell phone, gift cards, and other bonuses and accessories. See a list of the TracFone promo codes for free bonus minutes.
There are a lot of great pay as you go plans out there that require no contract and no commitment. Many of them will help you save money. I have written quite a bit about many of these plans on this website. Please read a few of the reviews and see if they can help you choose your next cell phone plan. I hope you save a bunch of money on your cell phone bill.

I’ve got a tracfone and I’m loving it! I’d heard a lot about prepaid from friends, but I couldn’t really believe it until I bought one and tried it for myself. It is sickening how ripped off the postpaid customers get. The savings, flexibility and freedom of not having a contract takes a huge weight off my shoulders every month and the coverage with tracfone has been awesome too
A lot of people I’ve been talking to lately have gone with TracFone. It seems to be one of the prepaid providers that keeps a lot of users. People seem to always go back to TracFone. I think it has something to do with the fact that there is always a new promotion or a new promo code.
