Straight Talk vs Common Cents Prepaid Phones

Update: There are five brand new Straight Talk phones that you should have a look at before you settle for one of the lesser prepaid phones out there.  Four of the new phones are smart phones.  One isn’t a smart phone, but it has a nice touch screen and can download apps.  One of the four smartphones is a brand new Straight Talk Android phone, which has a lot of people excited.  The Nokia E5 is no slouch either–it’s a pretty hot phone.

Straight Talk Wireless stormed onto the scene a couple years back and quickly became one of the more popular prepaid wireless brands around, in part because the brand of phones was sold in Walmart stores across the country.

After a short test period, Straight Talk was made available in most Walmart stores across the United States.  It is still a very popular prepaid company that does not require any kind of contract, commitment, or credit check in order for you to use the product and services.

Recently, Sprint released the Common Cents Mobile brand of prepaid phone which made a bit of a splash when it was announced that each minute of talk time would cost seven cents and that the minutes used would be rounded down.  Instead of paying for two minutes used after making a call that lasts 1.8 minutes, you are only charged for one minute.  Common Cents minutes round down, which is more than just a novelty act: you can save a little money this way.

Straight Talk, with its unlimited plan that costs $45 per month, is clearly aimed at more heavy phone users–those who like to stay connected more frequently.  Common Cents is more for the frugal cell phone user who will be attracted by the sort of novelty of the rounding down minutes.

Still, Common Cents is worth a look even if you think that Straight Talk is the way to go for you.  Many people have had successful experiences with Straight Talk’s other plan as well, which grants the user 1,000 minutes, 1,000 text messages, and some web browsing time for only $30 a month.

$30 a month is a darn solid deal for that many minutes and text messages, so if you don’t use over 1,000 minutes, then you should stick with the basic Straight Talk plan.  The phone below is the Samsung r355c, one of the best Straight Talk phones available at the moment.  Click the image to learn more.

I agree with the author here. Hard to beat the value you get for 30 dollars a month. I’ve been with straight talk for about 4 months now and the only drawback I’ve had, is with support. A little slow on their response. I know they are on facebook so I will check that out next time I need help.

hey magnus – definitley try facebook, that is the easiest way to get a response from them, i think that’s the customer service channel that they use most and they are very quick to get back to you..
