How Do Net10 Cell Phones Work?
Net10 phones are prepaid, so you pay ahead of time for your talk time. As you use your phone, minutes are deducted from your total.
When you begin your plan with Net10, you generally get 300 minutes of talk time to use over a period of 60 days. But at the end of that period of time, you don’t lose your minutes. They will actually carry over into the next month. But you need to know that you do have to add minutes to your card before the 60 day period expires. This way you keep your phone active and get to use all of the Net10 minutes you paid for.
Why Should I Buy a Net10 Prepaid Cell Phone?
If you use approximately 150 minutes a month, Net10 cell phones makes a lot of sense. Even if you use more talk time, it still makes a lot of sense for a lot of people since 10 cents a minute is very affordable, you will just refill your phone when you need more time.

Great summary of Net10 service! I think the important thing to note is how these plans fit in compared to other prepaid and non-contract services. If you’re a mid-level phone user, not really needing unlimited minutes, then their call rates and texts will offer the best value. And their phones are well priced too so it doesnt cost too much to try it out.

For convenience sake, I used to pay for an unlmited plan so I won’t have to worry about surprises with my phone bills. But then I realized that I really do not talk all that much and found it wasteful to be paying for “the peace of mind”. I switched to Net10 b/c I now know that I barely go over the 150 minutes and I like the easy to understand rate and the fact that the minutes carry over plus there’s no contract. So, if I decide the plan no longer works for me, I’ll just switch to another one.

For me, prepaid rules. I did a bit of research and discovered NET10 was the best for my purposes. I don’t use a lot of minutes — maybe 200 or so a month — and I’m not a mad texter or websurfer either, but 10¢ a minute for calls and 3¢ for texts is crazy good. And no fees per day or other bs.
I got a very nice Samsung phone with a slide-out qwerty keyboard and no one knows it’s prepaid. Costs me a big $30 a month for all my stuff.

I think Net10 is a wonderful service. It benefits my lifestyle completely. It is perfect for my children because I can maintain how many minutes they speak on the phone so they don’t blow my pocket book apart! I was scared when my children were getting to the age of needing cellphones that they would just take complete advantage of us but with Net10 we are really able to have control over how much they speak and text. Plus with only ten cents a minutes and 3 cents a text… you just can’t go wrong.
Yea, i agree with Cindy, the Net10 plan really does give the user a lot of control over their minute use. I give my kids a $30 card every 2 months and they are responsible for budgeting their talk time for those 2 months. It pretty much averages out to $15 for each kid per month. It really is great as a starter phone for a 12 year old and a 13 year old.
I bought the Net10 service as a birthday gift for my mom about 8 months ago. She didn’t have a cell phone and I wanted to be able to contact her and vice versa. After speaking with many friends I decided on Net10 – I bought her 5000 minutes for $400 with an expiration date of 2 years after the purchase date. To me, this is their best deal yet. It’s a one time $400 fee…but you get 5000 minutes that last you 2 years. And for my mother, that is perfect. I am able to call her now and ask her to pick up my kids…or just hear from her to make sure she’s okay. She’s been using it now for 8 months and she’s used 1500 minutes (since last time I checked). I am very very pleased with my purchase.

I am what you would consider a light to moderate phone user and net10 is perfect for me. 15 dollars a month for service, about 15 to 20 a month for minutes and texts, my bill is down from 80 when i a contract to 30-35. Plus as Samarco and Cindy point it really does give a much greater control over your minutes and how many you use and only have to pay for the minutes you need.
While I was once a huge cell user, over time I’ve dropped off and brought my minutes down. That was the reason why I decided to leave AT&T for a company that was better suited to my needs – Net10 was the prefect option. I’m saving more than $70 a month and I have dependable coverage on a TMobile powered network without having to worry about a contract. The selection of phones is the only kind of negative as its limited, but super affordable and you change whenever you like. With calls priced .10 a minute and .03 a text, you really can’t be beat it.
My son just started middle school and I wanted to give him a cell phone to be able to contact me. I got him a Net10 phone, and pay so little a month. I just recently got out of my 2year contract with a previous carrier and through out the 2 years i just had one problem after the next. So i decided a change was in order so i got a prepaid deal from NET10 and so far so good.
I am not going to sit here and lie to people there are better services than net10 but whats the flip side they cost a lot of money. I WISH i had an iphone, im dying for one but for now i will have to stick to my Net10, atleast i am on the same network as the iphone(AT&T). And to be completely honest for the price you pay net10 is a good service but like every other cheap service it has its dark sides, but i can live with it as long as they’ll always charge me $50/month for unlimited service.
I think “moderate” users are exactly who this is perfect for. High-end users won’t get the 3G performance and features that you would get on iPhone, and 50 bucks for unliimted is a little high for the low end. But it is probably the most powerful bang-for-buck mid level plan.
Net10 has a lot of areas where it can improve. However, the flexibility, price, and solid network make it a steal. Net10 does have issues with phone selection. However, their customization and ability to use major carrier networks like Verizon make it a service that more people should use. Unless you have one of the new smart phones you can’t justify staying with any other company b/c the service is on par with every one of the major companies.
This service is wonderful for those who can’t really afford the good stuff yet. 50 bucks for unlimited everything on Verizon and ATT networks is a pretty great deal. Yes, the internet isn’t as fast as it should be and the phones aren’t the fanciest, but that’s why they call it a discount option isn’t it?
