About Straight Talk
Straight Talk Wireless is an affordable brand of prepaid cell phone plan sold online and at Wal-Mart locations. It is also a joint venture between TracFone and Verizon Wireless.
Straight Talk’s plans run on Verizon’s nationwide network, which is perhaps the strongest in the country.
Verizon reported close to one million new sign-ups, many of whom are prepaid subscribers of the affordable Straight Talk plans.
There are two plans to choose from: the unlimited plan and the 1,000 minutes plan, which cost $45 and $30 per month respectively. They are competitive plans and are worth looking at if you want an affordable comprehensive prepaid plan that requires no contract. And now that the Samsung Precedent Android phone is available, there is one more reason to look at ST’s offers. I like the new Android phone by Straight Talk because it’s a bit classier of a phone for a prepaid provider. I also really like the Android platform and the ease with which you can download apps from the marketplace.
Boost Mobile is another prepaid service provider backed by a strong nationwide network and also has an aggressive unlimited plan, much like the one from Straight Talk. Smaller regional providers like MetroPCS and Cricket risk losing business the larger companies with strong prepaid offerings.
It will be interesting to see what happens in prepaid as the year unfolds. Straight Talk looks to be one of the most competitive and affordable pay as you go companies out there. There are a few really good phones from Straight Talk right now. There’s a good deal on the lg 900g phone ($39 instead of $49) and a really good deal on the Nokia E71 (reconditioned models now cost $49).
