This is a review of the new cell phone offering from Straight Talk Wireless (owned by TracFone), the Samsung Finesse r810c smartphone. It’s an easy to use and highly functional phone that has a lot of on-the-fence potential prepaid users excited and more willing to give prepaid plans a chance.
*Update 7/7/2011: This phone is no longer for sale from this company. But…there are two new smart phones that have replaced the Finesse: Nokia 6790 and Nokia E71. Have a look at these phones at the Straight Talk website. One of them may be exactly what you’re looking for. Or maybe it won’t! All kidding aside, these are very nice, highly functional phones at a great price. (see the Nokia 6790 below)
A lot of people have stayed away from prepaid due to poor phone choices. Well, now that’s changed and these people can begin to save money with prepaid and have a phone they enjoy using.
The Finesse runs on either of Straight Talk’s prepaid phone plans.
The Unlimited plan costs $45 and includes unlimited service for voice, text, and web browsing. The All You Need plan costs $30 and includes the use of 1,000 minutes of talk time and the same amount of text messages.
Through Straight Talk, the Finesse costs $373.00 with the Unlimited plan, which is probably the one you want to go with since it provides users with unlimited voice, text, and data. It’s a very good deal and if you opt for the Samsung Finesse, which is a higher end model (which you probably can tell from the price), you will have a very nice smartphone.
The price above includes the first month of unlimited prepaid service. Each successive month will cost $45, which is very affordable in terms of cell phone plans, and really cheap compared to other unlimited plans.
You can also opt for the $30 “All You Need” plan with the Finesse if you will use no more than 1,000 minutes, 1,000 text messages, and 30 mb of data. This is a very good plan as well and has ample minutes that should satisfy most cell phone users. It’s called the “All You Need” plan for a reason. The overall price goes down with the selection of this plan to $358 for the phone and the first month’s service.
A couple of exciting things about Straight Talk are that the service runs on Verizon’s network, which is one of the strongest if not the strongest in the country, and 411 calls are free–on both plans.
If you are looking for a prepaid plan because you want to save money, Straight Talk Wireless probably is the best company to look at presently. There is some competition from wireless providers like Boost Mobile and MetroPCS, but they really don’t compare when you factor in the Verizon network, the pricing, phone choices, and overall features.
There is no other company offering deals this good. Also, if you want a higher end phone (because let’s face it, they’re more fun), then have a look at Samsung Finesse r810, which is the best smartphone in the prepaid market.

It’s a very good looking phone, I know it’s not quite the same class but it really looks like the iPhone and I love the fact that it runs on Verizon’s network nationwide. I have been very happy with my Finesse so far, I don’t need all the iPhone apps, most people will play with their phones for the first month or two then it just goes back to being a communications device with a camera and MP3 player; I really don’t need any more than that. the touchscreen is very nice to have for a person like me that often pushes the wrong buttons so with this I can do what I need a lot easier. The unlimited everything is such a good price and on Verizon’s network nationwide that Straight Talk is rated my number one provider.

I’m glad you’re also enjoying your Samsung Finesse. I love this phone and the unlimited plan is, without question, the best plan out there! I get better coverage than i did with At&t and I save around $80 a month… Texting and emails are my most common functions and its perfect in both those departments.. The touch screen is a wonderful, i used to have the iPhone and find the finesse a way more easy to use device…
The Finesse is a very nice phone. I remember it was on the metropcs prepaid plans but I still wasn’t interested in it. Now that it is running on the straight talk plans, I’m interested because I know I’ll save a bunch each month that will help me pay for the phone.
And the best part is that I’ll be left with a really cool touch phone.

the metro pcs plans are cheaper and it has way better coverage , verizon drops calls like its no ones business and trackphone in general is bad i had this before and it doesnt compare to metro dont waste your time with this if you are planning on getting it!!!!
the metro pcs plan is cheaper and has a way better coverage than the verizon one, verizon drops calls like its no ones business , and trackphone is bad in general , if your looking for a great phone servie go with metro pcs worth it for sure !!!
thanks for your input ej, but I’m not sure you have facts to back up your claim. if you do, please provide them. metropcs is certainly not known for having better coverage than verizon.

I was wondering if you could get the samsung finesse from metro pcs and get it to work with straight talk.
Since straight talk has stopped selling the finesse, for some reason i have not been able to find, i have no found any for sale anywhere (even ebay).
I fell in love with this phone and am not a fan of any other straight talk phone but have heard many bad things about metro pcs and would like to stay with straight talk.
Help would be nice as i have not been able to get an answer anywhere.
Thank you!
Samsung Finesse is a pretty sweet phone. I like it a lot.
These reviews have been super helpful. I am already thinking about what to get my brother for the holidays, and I was leaning towards this phone. He always has old, out of date phones that have some problem like a cracked screen or something. I wanted to get him something nice that he’d use. He just switched to Straight Talk and raves about how he gets unlimited everything for $45/month with no contract. If this phone works with Straight Talk, then I think I just found the perfect Christmas gift.
I wish the Samsung Finesse was still available on straight talk, but I don’t see it on the website anymore and I hear it isn’t being sold. The new smartphones, E71 and 6790, are newer but I miss Finesse.
Love Straight Talk! Was expecting to get a hardly-functioning phone with terrible service when I bought a temporary phone from Wal-Mart. I was impressed because it dropped less calls than my old service. Now that they have expanded their line to smartphones, I feel like I just copped a cheaper iPhone! 45 bucks a month!
Straight Talk has enabled me, on my modest grad-school student budget, not to worry about overages and BS like that. I have no idea if I will be able to pay my phone bill in six months so contracts are out of the question. Of the prepaid plans, only Straight Talk uses the Verizon and ATT towers and offers any kind of smartphone, so the choice was easy.
Thanks for the review. It has been very helpful in my quest of finding the perfect service! I have been looking for a wireless plan that is free of headaches. What I mean by this is, I want to know what I am paying for. Straight Talk makes it easy: you pick your bundle, pay as you go. For me, my ideal bundle is the $45/month unlimited phone, unlimited internet, unlimited text, unlimited PICTURE text…UNLIMITED SERVICE. I know they have other options, but this one for me works perfectly as I am a social butterfly! I am always texting, e-mailing & most importantly, sending pictures to my friends! And we can’t forget their phone options. Straight Talk offers a wide variety of phones at good prices. I am just so happy with their options!
I’ve had StraightTalk for over a year now and I still have the same phone as I did when I first got it. I, personally, love StraightTalk and they have never dropped a call on me. I wish they would reconsider bringing back the Finesse as it seems like a very interesting phone. Maybe, if someone would send them this link and show them that everyone is wanting it to come back they will take the customer’s interest into consideration.
